How to choose the right size of a hobby horse?
Hobby Horse - Size S
The S size hobby horses, also called Sport or Small, are A4 size or smaller. This size is usually intended for two target groups: (1) for smaller children or beginners in riding and (2) for big athletes - especially show jumpers.
The hobby horse for smaller children is characterised not only by its size, but above all by its weight. A young rider can easily cope with this horse and riding it will not tire him out so quickly.
S-size hobby horses are most often used in tournaments, especially in show jumping. Thanks to the weight already mentioned, it is possible to overcome higher obstacles with the horse and to ride safely through the course. The shorter bar also plays a role in competitions; when jumping, it prevents the obstacle from falling and thus a possible fall.
Hobby Horse - Size M
M size hobby horses are between A3 and A4 size. These Hobby Horses are the most common and versatile. Due to their size and weight, they are still pets, but also athletes. An experienced rider can do show jumping or cross with this horse.
Hobby Horses of size M look especially beautiful in dressage. This discipline is very demanding and there is a lot of emphasis on judging the horse and rider. For dressage it is advisable to have a larger but light horse that looks good.
Size M is simply the best choice if you want to do dressage at a professional level. At the same time, with this size of hobby horse, one can easily handle other disciplines.
Hobby Horse - Size L
L-size hobby horses are usually A3 or larger. These horses are massive and usually the largest by far. They are usually bought by older riders who already have the strength to carry a larger hobby horse. Because of their weight and mass, hobby horses are more for pleasure. We do not use them in sport or for similar activities. However, this is not to say that these horses are not just as much fun as their smaller stablemates. With a size L, you won't be overlooked!
